Who We Are

Mashinani Women KE is an intersectional and inclusive women-led organisation that pays attention to and is dedicated to addressing the systemic discrimination faced by women in the areas of reproductive health, gender-based violence (GBV), and mental health in the rural areas. We recognize the importance of understanding and challenging the barriers that hinder women’s access to information, support, and resources in these crucial areas.

Mashinani Women operates with the goal of creating a safe and inclusive environment where women can freely discuss, access, and advocate for their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), as well as address the challenges surrounding GBV and mental health using stories, focus group discussions, and other engaging techniques. We believe in a holistic approach that takes into account the diverse experiences, needs, and disparities within our target demographic.

We need to hear the voices and experiences of people from different ethnic backgrounds, races, religious background, geographic locations, social classes, We cannot assume the interconnected nature of the different aspects in a woman’s life. Let’s take Wangari Maathai as an example. She fought for environmental justice due to her relationship with nature when growing up. But, was it the only reason? We all experience discrimination from the patriarchal systems in our own unique ways but it should not stop us from unifying to fight for equity. Because we can all embrace equity.

Vision

Our core vision is to make information on SRHR, GBV, and mental health readily available through storytelling using film, theatre for community development, blog posts, and a podcast . We envision a society where every woman has access to accurate, comprehensive, and non-discriminatory information, support, and services related to reproductive health, while ensuring the eradication of GBV and promoting mental well-being.

Mission

Our mission is to work with Mashinani women by providing them with the necessary knowledge, tools, and resources to make informed decisions about their reproductive health, combat gender-based violence, and prioritise mental well-being within the existing welfare structures in our community.
